Dueling

Dueling is a fight between two individual pilots that has been agreed upon before hand. To initiate a duel one of the two pilots must enter the "/duel challenge <pilot>" command, where "<pilot>" is the name of the pilot that you wish to duel. Once that has been entered, the challenged pilot will receive a message that you have challenged them to a duel. They have two options. Either, a) type "/duel accept <pilot>" or b) "/duel decline <pilot>". If the pilot accepts the challenge, the duel has begun, though some rules may be discussed before the battle begins. If the duel is declined the challanger will receive a message saying that the challenge was declined.

Duel Commands:

  • /duel challenge - Used to initiate a duel
  • /duel accept - Used to accept a challenge
  • /duel decline - Used to decline a challenge
  • /duel abort - Used to abort a duel in progress (Good to use if someone interupts your duel in progress)

Rules

Even though there are no set rules for dueling, there is a generally accepted set of rules that most pilots follow. Duels can range from standard issue buses to pilots preference.

The accepted rule of thumb when dueling includes the following:

  1. Opponents must have a starting distance of 1000m. Premature starts can result in a resetting of distance or a forfit of duel.
  2. Any requests as to ship type/weapon loadout from either side must be honored.
  3. Docking to rearm/repair and warping out of a sector are regarded as a loss for that pilot.
  4. An issue in any form, be it from collision or self inflicted damage is regarded as a loss for that pilot.
  5. If at any point a ship not involved in the duel fires on or damages any ship, that ship should be destroyed (if possible) by the duelists.

Etiquette

When approaching a duel in progress, some things to keep in mind:

  1. Before engaging, make sure that the pilot is not already engaged in a duel.
    (Pilots that are normally
    green
    will appear
    red
    on your radar)
  2. When watching a duel, it is good to give the pilots at least 1000m of space, both for manuvering as well "friendly fire".

When starting a duel, some things to keep in mind:

  1. Make sure that, if your in a sector that other fight in, that you don't mind being interrupted by others. Perhaps an empty sector would be better.
  2. Announce in Sector that you are about to begin dueling pilot "x" so that those in sector are aware of your intentions.
  3. Though you CAN duel anywhere, if you are dueling in Sedina B8, or sectors like it, do not expect others to respect your duel, these are combat zones and with no "no fire" rules, everyone is a target.

Ranking

Vendetta Onlineâ„¢ uses the same statistical ranking algorithm used by the international chess consortiums to rank chess players. Your rating changes over time. Points you win or lose when fighting someone depend on their rating at the time of the duel. Your rank is weighted against the history of the person you are duelling. If you're duelling someone who isn't very good (or has a terrible record) you won't increase in skill assessment. The stats should be viewable in-game by checking your "Character Info" tab.

The duel ranking system is still under construction, but there are plans for more features as well as awards for those with certain levels.

A stats list can be found on the Official Vendetta Online website which shows your rank as a dueler.
